AIM Neuromodulation

New Neurological and Psychiatric Treatment Options for Depression, Addiction, and Migraine.

AIM neuromodulation's innovative approach combines expertise led by Consultant Psychiatrists with pioneering neuromodulation therapies such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Direct Current Stimulation (DCS), providing patients with personalised and effective care for mental health and neurological disorders.

AIM neuromodulation was founded in 2022 by three Consultant Psychiatrists, Dr. Nathan Maynard, Dr. Radu Iosub, and Dr. Nick Airey, in collaboration with Broadway Lodge and is based in Weston-Super-Mare. Broadway Lodge is one of the leading abstinence-based addiction treatment centres in the UK. Since 1974, Broadway Lodge’s multidisciplinary team has helped to transform the lives of thousands of people, supporting them in their recovery from addiction to alcohol, illicit drugs, prescription drugs, gambling, sex, and gaming. Due to this unique collaboration, AIM neuromodulation has expertise in using neuromodulation techniques in treating addiction and can offer repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) as part of Broadway Lodge's inpatient rehabilitation programme.

AIM neuromodulation is focused on research and innovation and committed to advancing the understanding and use of neuromodulation treatments in mental health and neurological disorders. There are a variety of other uses of rTMS, from treating Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) to Chronic Pain and Migraine, with a growing evidence base as to its effectiveness. AIM neuromodulation has a specific interest in rTMS use in Migraine but is happy to discuss neuromodulation treatments for other uses on a case-by-case basis. We want to make sure that our patients not only get the best help but that they are supported to maintain their recovery.

New Psychiatric and Neurological Treatment Options

Our expert Consultant Psychiatrists deliver comprehensive psychiatric assessments and personalised treatment plans. We specialise in using transcranial magnetic stimulation and direct current stimulation, ensuring our patients receive the most effective and up-to-date care available. Both treatment options are non-invasive, non-pharmacological, and have shown significant efficacy, especially in patients who have not responded to traditional therapies.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive method that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain. TMS is particularly effective for treating depression and was NICE approved for this indication in 2015. It is recognised for its ability to alleviate symptoms in patients who have not responded to traditional therapies. to alleviate symptoms in patients who have not responded to traditional therapies.

Direct Current Stimulation (DCS) Direct Current Stimulation (DCS) applies a low-intensity electrical current to targeted areas of the brain, enhancing neuroplasticity, offering a safe and effective alternative to traditional therapies.

Patient Journey

1. Initial Consultation

The journey begins with scheduling a consultation with AIM Neuromodulation. During this session, patients meet with a consultant psychiatrist who conducts a comprehensive assessment to understand their medical history, symptoms, and treatment goals.

2. Personalised Treatment Plan

Based on the initial assessment, a tailored treatment plan is developed to address specific neurological or psychiatric conditions

3. Treatment Sessions

Patients undergo their prescribed neuromodulation treatments, with each session typically lasting around 20-40 minutes. The frequency and duration of treatments vary depending on the individual's condition and response.

4. Monitoring and Adjustments

Throughout the treatment period, the patient's progress is closely monitored. Regular follow-up appointments are scheduled with a Consultant Psychiatrist to assess the effectiveness of the therapy and make necessary adjustments to the treatment plan.

5. Follow-Up Care

Upon completing the course of treatment, patients will have a review with a consultant psychiatrist assessing effectiveness, addressing any emerging concerns, and providing additional recommendations to sustain improvement. AIM Neuromodulation remains a resource for ongoing support as needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is neuromodulation?

Neuromodulation is a therapeutic approach that changes (or modulates) nerve activity by delivering electrical or chemical agents directly to a target area. This can be used to treat psychiatric and neurological disorders, such as epilepsy, pain, or depression. Techniques include electromagnetic stimulation (like deep brain stimulation or transcranial magnetic stimulation) and the use of pharmacological interventions that target neural circuits.

  • What is neuroplasticity?

Neuroplasticity is the brain's ability to form new neural connections. This ability allows neurons in the brain to recover from injury or disease, enables learning, memory formation, and to adjust their activities in response to new situations or changes in the environment.
